1 Peter | Part 3
1 Peter 2:13-25 // Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.
18 Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19 For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22 “He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth.”
23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” 25 For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
Looking back to when you were asked to do something you didn’t want to do, what did your reaction reveal about your priorities?
How did the Roman government treat Christians during the time of Peter?
How would you define “submission”?
What is the reason for why we should learn to submit?

October is Pastor Appreciation Month
This month let’s give some love and appreciation to our Pastors. There are so many different ways in which you can let them know how much you love them!
The best way to help your pastors is to faithfully and regularly pray for them, their families, their marriages, finances, wisdom, leadership and encouragement. Let the Pastors know how much you appreciate them and their personal sacrifice to serve our church family.
Food & Fun:
– Prepare a meal or baked goods for them (ask about favorite meals or certain foods to avoid)
– Give your pastor a gift card for restaurants, fast food or coffee shops
– Invite your pastor and family to go fishing, sailing, camping, hunting, concerts, plays or sporting events.
– Gift your pastor’s family sports, concert or event tickets.
Share your skills and time to help with any of the following items:
– Auto Maintenance and repair
– Car wash gift cards
– Home repairs or maintenance.
Faithfully give to your church so you pastor can be properly compensated.
– Participate in special giving during Pastor Appreciation opportunities

Practically, this looks like serving with everything we have: time, energy, and money. Every week you will find in the program a financial update including our total tithes and offerings and monthly operation costs for the previous month. This is to keep you informed on our current financial status. August Tithes & Offerings $15,427.85 | Operating Cost: $17,152.78
How To Get Involved? There are a few different ways that you can financial give and support The River Church. First is by using the envelope in the little bucket by your row on Sunday morning. Fill out the details on the front and drop it in the offering during the service. Second is by using our secure online form on our website at TheRiverChurch.net/give to give using your credit or debit card.
